To March in the Los Angeles Chinatown New Year's Parade
Who: API Equality-LA members, supporters and allies will march in the
2007 Golden Dragon Parade
What: For only the second time in its 108-year history, the Los Angeles
Chinatown New Year's Parade welcomes a contingent representing and
supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) members of the
Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community
When: Saturday, February 24, 2007, 1 PM (parade to run from 2 to 5 PM)
Where: Courtyard behind the County of Los Angeles Kenneth Hahn Hall of
Administration, 500 W. Temple St., Los Angeles (accessible from Hill St.,
between Temple St. and First St.). Participants will assemble near the
Starbucks in the courtyard and walk to the staging area at Hill St. and
Temple St.
Supplementary: API Equality-LA and its coalition partners are delighted
and honored to march in one of the most prestigious parades in the City of
Los Angeles and to join the Chinatown community in celebrating the Year of
the Boar. This year, participants in the API Equality-LA unit will display
the six colors of the rainbow flag - symbolizing diversity and LGBT pride -
in a unique and colorful display of the strength of diversity, inclusion,
and equality for all members of the Chinese and API communities. Also
expected to participate with API Equality-LA will be members of the Chinese
Rainbow Association; Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC); South
Asian Network; API Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG);
and Asian Pacific Islander Pride Council, which includes Asian Pacific AIDS
Intervention Team (APAIT), Asian American Queer Women Activists (AAQWA), Gay
Asian Pacific Support Network (GAPSN), Barangay, Satrang, and Diverse and
Inclusive Visionary Artists (DIVA).
